Road safety council meets for UN Regulation on safety requirements of helmet

The National Road Safety Council held a meeting on safety of helmets in line with the UNECE Regulation No.22 (Safety Helmets) yesterday morning.

Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, in his capacity as the chairman of Management Sub-committee of the council, talked about goals of the council in 2020 to decrease road accidents, implementation of the UN regulation, quality of motorcycle helmets, using standard helmets to prevent serious head injuries in the accidents and the implementing state-departments in this issue. Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw, as the vice-chairman of sub-committee, explained the works of Road Management Department to decrease accidents on motorcycle ways, awareness campaigns for wearing helmets in rural areas, designating specific route for motorcycles in major roads, coordination with experts for road safety and stands of roads.

Director-General U Zaw Min Oo from the Department of Road Transport Administration briefed on workings for implementation of the UNECE Regulation No.22 (Safety Helmets).

Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Kyaw Myo and Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo discussed public awareness to use quality halmets and import of halmets, followed by discussions of officials for implementation of the UN Regulation.—MNA(Translated by Aung Khin)
