Saudi Arabia: Oil pipeline attacked by drones

Saudi Arabia says an oil pipeline that runs across the country has been attacked by armed drones.

Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said on Tuesday that two oil pumping stations were hit in the attacks, which caused a fire and minor damage.

The minister said these attacks prove again that it's important for the Saudi government to face terrorist entities, including the Houthi militias in Yemen that are backed by Iran.

The Houthis said in a statement that seven drones had successfully attacked their targets.

The pipeline is used to transport oil from fields near the Persian Gulf to a port on the Red Sea, without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia said two of its oil tankers suffered significant damage in a sabotage attack near the strait on Sunday.

It is not known whether the two incidents are linked.

There is growing concern that the attacks on oil installations in Saudi Arabia could increase tensions with Iran.
