A fifth-day meeting of Second Amyotha Hluttaw’s 13th regular session was held at the Amyotha Hluttaw meeting hall yesterday morning. At the meeting five questions were raised and answered, two bills and a motion discussed.
Question and answer session
In this session U Hla Oo of Sagaing Region constituency 4 asked if there was a plan to relocate Myanmar Economic Bank in Sagaing Region, Monywa District, Monywa Town to a bigger area or to open another branch. Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Maung Maung Win replied that there was sufficient space in the subject bank on normal days but was crowded on a day when pensions were paid to pensioners. As there was an unused 150 x150 ft. Myanma Timber Enterprise land only 10 ft. away from the bank, discussions were being held with Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation to use that land for the bank and once that land is obtained the bank building can be expanded onto it said the Deputy Minister.
U Pu Cin Kan Lian of Chin State constituency 3 asked if there was a plan to open a farmland management and land record department in Chin State Tiddim Township Khaikam town. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Hla Kyaw explained that there was no plan to do so as the town was recently upgraded from village tract level and had only one village tract in it. Furthermore the Deputy Minister explained that Tiddim Township farmland management and land record department was recently expanded with additional personnel and thus it was not necessary at the moment to open it in Khaikam.
Similarly questions raised by U Kyaw Thaung of Sagaing Region constituency 1 on unequal pension right for husband or wife of pensioners who had passed away, U Khin Maung Latt of Rakhine State constituency 2 on plan to resolve potable water shortage in Rakhine State during summer, Daw Ei Ei Pyone of Ayeyawady Region constituency 8 on resettlement of squatters in Ayeyawady Region Maubin Township to lands adjacent and nearby to Aungchantha housing and action to be taken against officials who were selling agriculture lands to those squatters were answered by Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Maung Maung Win and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Hla Kyaw.
Basic Education bill
After the question and answer session U Aye Bo of Yangon Region constituency 11 and U Win Myint, Magway Region constituency 8 discussed amendments and additions to clauses and sub-clauses in the Basic Education bill.
Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker decided for Amyotha Hluttaw Bill Committee to review and handle the matters discussed by the Hluttaw representatives.
Urban and Rural Development Project bill
Next U Zon Hle Htan of Chin State constituency 4, Tatmadaw representative Maj Win Lwin Oo and U Soe Thein @ U Maung Soe of Taninthayi Region constituency 10 discussed amendments and additions to clauses and sub-clauses in the Urban and Rural Development Project Bill.
Here too Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker decided for Amyotha Hluttaw Bill Committee to review and handle the matters discussed by the Hluttaw representatives.
Motion on rural women
As a final agenda of the day a motion urging the Union Government to create a good environment for rural women through providing technology, capital and raw material for developing home-based industries in attempts to reduce the number of women who left abroad to get oversea jobs tabled by Dr Tin Tin win of Bago Region constituency 3 was discussed by Daw Ei Ei Pyone of Ayeyawady Region constituency 8, U Hla San of Magway Region constituency 1, Daw Khin Swe Lwin of Chin State constituency 9, Daw Myat Thida Tun of Mon State constituency 5 and U Pe Chit of Yangon Region constituency 9.
Discussion of Hluttaw representatives remaining to discuss the motion, discussion of union level organizations on the motion and Hluttaw’s decision on the motion is learnt to be conducted in the sixth-day meeting.
