Media in South Korea report that a Russian military aircraft violated what Seoul claims to be its airspace near the Takeshima Islands on Tuesday morning.
The Yonhap News Agency reports that the South Korean Air Force responded by scrambling fighter jets and firing warning shots.
South Korea controls the islands. Japan claims them.
The Japanese government maintains the islands are an inherent part of Japan's territory. It says South Korea is illegally occupying them.
