SMART CAR parking lots will be built next year in downtown Yangon, said U Lin Khine, the Head of the Engineering Department (Roads, and Bridges), Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC).

Private companies were asked to submit expressions of interest (EOI) for building the parking lots. A total of 26 companies submitted EOIs, and six of them were selected, according to the YCDC.

“Tenders will be invited from the six selected companies. Currently, the rules for the tender system are being formulated. The tenders will be invited very soon,” said U Lin Khine.

“We will invite interested bidders through an announcement in the newspapers. Then, we will give the bidders oneand-a-half or two months to prepare their bids. Afterwards, we will scrutinize all the tender applications and make the selection. We will complete the project next year,” said U Lin Khine.

“Initially, the smart car parking lots will be built in six downtown townships of Yangon. If the project is successful, then more parking lots would be constructed in the remaining townships in the city,” said Daw May May Thwe, committee member-5 of YCDC. “Yangon Region is facing car-parking space scarcity problem. So, smart car parking lots have to be built,” said U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region.

“To solve the problem of scarcity of car parking space in Yangon Region, smart car parking lots will have to be built,” U Maung Maung Soe, the Mayor of Yangon Region, had remarked at the 2nd Yangon Region Hluttaw’s sixth regular meeting, held on 15 February, 2018.

“Previously, the YCDC collected car parking fees on roads. It has removed collection agents on the roads,” he had said. (Translated by Hay Mar)
