Once construction work on the Yangon-Dala bridge begins on the Yangon side, the Yangon Bus Service (YBS) lines will be rerouted, said U Hla Aung, the joint secretary of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).
He made the remark at a press conference held yesterday at the YRTA office.
Phase I of the Yangon-Dala bridge project will be carried out on the approach road on the Yangon side — the Phonegyi Street between Annawrahta road and Mahar Bandula Road. The YBS lines running on that road will be diverted from 11 August. The new routes for those bus lines will be announced through state-owned newspapers and broadcasting channels.
At present, YBS lines 21,35,37,39,78, and the airport shuttle bus are running on that road section, and they will change route only on that part, said U Hla Aung.
“Phase I of the project will take around six months. The YRTA has forwarded the diverted route of YBS lines to the Yangon Region government to minimize transportation difficulties. The sudden route change of YBS may cause transportation difficulties for the people,” said U Hla Aung.
To facilitate public transportation, the YRTA will raise awareness about the changed routes at some YBS bus stops with the help of mobile vehicles. It will also monitor bus lines to ensure systematic transportation. The Yangon Region government has directed that the approach road on the Yangon side be closed to ensure the safety of passengers and buses.
The Yangon-Dala bridge project is slated to be complete in 2022, said Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein.
