Steps taken to draft National Land Law

THE Work Committee on Drafting the National Land Law and Harmonization of Laws Related with Land Management held its first meeting at the Office of the Union Attorney-General in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

 

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the work committee Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo detailed about the duties of the committee saying that the committee is obliged to amend and add the existing laws related with land management as part of efforts for drafting the National Land Law and for brining harmonization among the laws related with land management in consistency with the National Land Use Policy-NLUP.


He pledged that the National Land Law would guarantee sustainable land management, land rights, giving protection to rights of ethnic minority groups, settling land disputes and encouraging responsibility and accountability for investment.


The work committee was formed to implement the tasks of the National Land Use Council, which was established to implement the National Land Use Policy.


To support the work committee, the Work Group for Supporting Drafting the National Land Law was also formed to support the work committee.


The work committee will conduct national-level workshops so that the people can participate in drafting the law. The work committee will also provide guidelines to the supporting group to draft the law. At the meeting, members of the work committee, the supporting committee and experts.
