Strengthening national quality infrastructure, certification body launched

The Project on Strengthening National Quality Infrastruc­ture and Implementation of National Certification Body for Certifying Products, Process­es, and Services, along with the Stakeholders Engagement Forum on Standards and Qual­ity for Trade Facilitation and Industry Development, was formulated and led by the Department of Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology under the Mekong-Lancang Cooper­ation Special Fund (2023). The event took place yesterday at Mercure Hotel in Yangon.

 

The event was attended by Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, the Yangon Region chief minister, ministers, members of the National Skills Stand­ard Council, members of the Technical Subcommittee on Drafting Standards, represent­atives from the Union of Myan­mar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as other associated organ­izations, and representatives of quality recommendation bodies from both public and private sectors.

 

During the event, speech­es were delivered by Union Minister for Science and Tech­nology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Counsellor of the Chinese Em­bassy to Myanmar Ms Qiao Li, and Strategic Studies and Deputy Director-General of Training Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Swa.

 

Currently, the implemen­tation of strengthening the na­tional quality infrastructure, products, and national quality recommendations for manu­facturing practices and servic­es is underway as part of this project. Additionally, standard operating procedures, rules, regulations, and directives are being developed, with the approval of the National Skills Standard Council, for the reg­istration and designation pro­cesses for quality control bod­ies, laboratories, and quality scrutinizing laboratories and bodies, according to the report.

 

In the Stakeholders En­gagement Forum, discussions focused on collaborating with stakeholders to establish the required procedures and quali­ty control and scrutinizing pro­cesses domestically. – MNA/ TMT
