Strong quakes hit China's Sichuan province

At least 11 people are dead and many more are injured, after powerful earthquakes struck China's Sichuan province, late Monday.

Emergency crews are now combing through the rumble, searching for people who may be trapped.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.0, according to the China Earthquake Administration. Multiple aftershocks each had a magnitude of around 5.0.

Local authorities say 122 people were injured.

The initial quake was centered near the city of Yibin and had an estimated depth of 16 kilometers.

Sichuan Province is known as an area prone to earthquakes. In 2008, a major quake there killed more than 87,000 people.
