Tarred road opens to mark 74th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

A new tarred road was opened to traffic in honour of the 74th birthday of the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The inauguration ceremony was held at the archway at 38th Street and 73x78th Street in Mahaaungmye Township, Mandalay City this morning.

The new tarred road was formally opened by Regional Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Regional Parliament Speaker U Aung Kyaw Oo, Chairman of Mandalay Development Committee Mandalay Mayor Dr. Ye Lwin and Col Soe Kyi Khin from the Central Command by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. The tarred road is 2,860 ft. long, 60 ft. wide and has a 6 ft. long pedestrian walkway on each side. The road has a 2 ft. wide drainage ditch on each side and was built with more than Ks. 1211 million.

The 60 power poles donated by well-wishers were built and 108 gold mohur trees (Delonix regia) were planted along both sides of the road.—Tun Tun Naing
