Vice President U Henry Van Thio visited flood-hit areas in Mon State yesterday to lend encouragement to rescue teams and provide aid to flood victims in Mawlamyine and Ye townships.
A new rescue camp has been set up in Kyainn-Seikkyi Township, Kayin State as some wards and villages were submerged by floodwaters after the water level of Zami River exceeded about one foot above 35 ft. of its danger level.
Some wards and villages in Yebyu Township, Taninthayi River were inundated by floodwaters from the Dawei River as a consequence of incessant heavy rains since early this month.
A police force led by Commander of the district police force Police Lt-Col Kyaw Myo Myint donated relief items to flood victims from two villages whose homes were inundated by torrential rains flowing heavy rains hit Myeik, Taninthayi Region.
Employees from the Department of Disaster Management under the Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided cash and kind to storm victims in Ohnsanhsai Village, Mohnyin Township in Kachin State on 10 August.
