Team Myanmar heads to Laos for remaining World Cup qualifiers

Myanmar’s national football team departed for Vientiane, Laos, on 8 June to play the remaining Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers for 2026, as stated by the Myanmar Football Federation.

Team Myanmar head coach Feichtenbeiner took 24 players for the final group match against North Korea and made some changes to the 23 players selected for the game against Japan.

The Myanmar squad will travel three days before the match against the North Korean team. Head coach Feichtenbeiner, who was suspended for the match against Japan, will have the opportunity to supervise the field again. The back row player Hein Phyo Win will also be allowed to play again.

The North Korean team was unable to host home games, so Laos will host their match against the Syrian squad on 6 June and the Myanmar team on 11 June. The Myanmar-North Korea game will be at 7:30 pm Myanmar Standard Time.

In Group B of the second round of World Cup qualifiers, Japan is leading with 15 points and has already advanced to the next round. Syria is securing seven points, and North Korea is collecting six points, but Myanmar has only one point.

If the North Korean team beats the Myanmar team, there is hope that they will get second place in the group. The Myanmar team lost 1-6 in the home meeting of the first round against the North Korean team. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
