Thailand's King has ordered the country's military-led government to hold a long-awaited general election. A deputy prime minister has said one possibility being floated is March 24th.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn issued his royal decree Wednesday. His call is a decisive step toward an election.
The military has controlled the government since it staged a coup in 2014. It has pledged to hold an election to hand over power to a civilian administration, but it's repeatedly postponed that.
The prime minster and former army chief Prayut Chan-o-cha has hinted he will continue to lead the country.
