Three-day New Year Dhamma ceremony begins in Yangon

New Year Dhamma ceremony organized by the Yangon Region Government kicked off yesterday at the People’s Park, attracting over 120,000 people.

 

At the first day of the ceremony, Bhamo Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Kumara Bhivamsa delivered a sermon titled “What we should donate”.

 

In the there-day Dhamma ceremony, Rector Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Nandamalar Bhivamsa will deliver a sermon on 2nd January and Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Nannisara on 3rd January.

 

Among the congregation were Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and wife, Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Speaker U Lin Naing Myint, members of the Yangon Region Cabinet and MPs.

 

“After taking office, Yangon Region Government decided to hold New Year Dhamma ceremonies for the people so that they can live in accordance with the teachings of the Sayadaws,” said U Shein Win, Chairman of the committee for holding the Dhamma ceremony.

 

Yangon Region Government has provided free ferry services to the people from townships in the region.

 

About 160,000 people gathered at the ceremony every night last year. —Ye Khaung, Zaw Gyi
