Three people injured in boat fire in Patheingyi Township

Patheingyi, 20 January

Three people—two men and one woman—were injured in a boat fire in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported.

The fire had started when a woman named Ma Khaing Zar Win, 36, cooked rice by using an electric kettle on a boat at about 3:50 p.m. on 17 January and ceased around an hour later. The boat measuring 60 ft. in length, 15 ft. in width and about 4 ft. in draught was carrying 80 barrels of diesel and docked at a jetty along the Ayeyawady River near Thanbo Village. The blaze consumed the boat and eight barrels of diesel, resulting in the injuring of three people on the craft.

The injured people were sent to a public hospital in Mandalay and a probe has been launched to investigate into the cause of the fire against the boat owner by the local police.—MOHA
