Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 4,012 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Wednesday.
The number is down 1,922 from a week ago and marks the 15th straight day of week-on-week decline.
The ministry says 34 patients were seriously ill, up two from Tuesday.
It also confirmed 19 deaths from the virus in the capital.
Nationwide, there were 55,537 new infections, 496 seriously ill patients and 308 deaths on Wednesday.
Officials and health experts are urging people to maintain basic anti-infection measures as the daily death toll remains relatively high.
