Trump: G7 summit at Camp David

US President Donald Trump says he will host next year's Group of Seven summit at the Camp David mountain retreat near Washington.

Trump announced his decision on Tuesday in London at the start of a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The president was responding to a reporter's question.

He said the summit will be held at the presidential retreat in Maryland because of its proximity to the US capital.

He said the G7 leaders will "be doing some very special things" there.

US presidents have used Camp David for meetings with foreign leaders in the past to take advantage of its relaxed atmosphere.

Former President Barack Obama hosted a G8 summit there.

The White House initially announced in October that the president would hold next year's summit at his golf resort in Florida.

But Trump dropped that plan after Democrats and journalists accused him of using his office for personal gain.
