US President Donald Trump says he is in no rush for a nuclear deal with North Korea, one year after the first-ever summit between the leaders of two countries.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a letter to Trump ahead of the anniversary to showcase their mutual trust.

Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that he'd received a beautiful letter and that he appreciates it. He did not disclose its contents.

Trump added that he and Kim have a very good relationship, but he will wait and see what happens.

North Korea is increasingly frustrated by the US stance that it will not lift sanctions until the North is fully denuclearized.

The country said in a statement earlier this month that there's a limit to Pyongyang's patience.

Trump indicated the US will keep sanctions in place as it tries to determine whether the North is prepared to fully denuclearize.
