Trump: Not now planning duties on Japanese cars

US President Donald Trump says he's not planning to impose tariffs on Japanese cars for now. But he warned he may consider doing so in the future.

Trump made the comment at a news conference on Monday, following the Group of Seven summit in France.

He also said US-Japan trade talks have delivered "wonderful results for both countries."

He was apparently referring to a basic agreement he reached with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the G7's sidelines.

Auto tariffs have been a key issue in the bilateral trade negotiations.

Trump also expressed hope for progress on the escalating trade disputes with China. He said the Chinese want a deal "very badly."
