Turkish TV airs images of purported body transfer

1 January

A Turkish TV station has broadcast footage showing men carrying what is purportedly the remains of journalist Jamal Khashoggi to the Saudi consul-general's residence in Istanbul.

The video aired on Sunday shows men carrying dark suitcases and bags on separate occasions through the main entrance of the residence.

Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government, was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October.

Saudi Arabia has acknowledged its involvement in the killing, but Khasshoggi's remains have never been located.

Some have accused Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of being involved.

Saudi Arabia has denied the crown prince's involvement, and is trying to put to an end to the case.

Turkey says the truth must be revealed about who gave the order to kill the Saudi journalist.

The broadcast of the footage is likely to draw sharp reactions from the Saudi government.
