Two dead, five injured as truck laden with timber overturns in Maei Township

Two people were killed and five others slightly injured after a truck carrying timber logs overturned in Maei Township, Rakhin State yesterday evening.

The fatal accident occurred on a mountain slope near a creek while the truck with seven people on board was going to one village to another. The accident took place due to the faculty braking system of the vehicle. Two men were pronounced dead on the spot and five others sustained minor injuries and were said to be not in life-threatening situation.

The deceased and injured people were transferred to a public hospital in Maei and an arrangement is being made to arrest the truck driver who fled the scene of accident.—Maung Maung Htay (IPRD)
