A meeting between the officials from the Union Election Commission (UEC) and the election sub-commissions was held at Shwe Hse Myaing Hall in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region on 22 June.
At the meeting, Member of the UEC U Myint Aung said the 2020 general elections will be held based on the five criteria—freedom, fairness, transparency, credibility and public reliability—. The UEC designated the year 2019 as voter list compilation year in order to help people cast their vote without losing their right of voting. The UEC is cooperating with the Union Government Office Ministry and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population to compile the correct voter list, he added.
Next, the chairperson of the district election sub-commission U Kyaw Nyunt reported on measures taken ahead of the general elections and an official from the regional election sub-commission elaborated on compilation of the voter’s list.
