UK media: Prince William had coronavirus in April

Multiple British media say Prince William contracted the coronavirus in April.

The Sun newspaper said on Sunday that the Duke of Cambridge was treated by palace doctors and followed guidelines by isolating at the family home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk.

The paper quotes a source as saying, "At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked."

But it says the prince carried out 14 telephone and video call engagements in April. They included a video call with the children of medical and other workers.

The Sun says Prince William kept his diagnosis a secret to avoid alarming the nation. It says he told an observer at an engagement that there were important things going on and he didn't want to worry anyone.

His father, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson were confirmed infected with the virus in late March. Prince Charles displayed mild symptoms, while Johnson's condition deteriorated and he was briefly moved into intensive care.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Britain has surpassed 46,000, the most in Europe.
