COOKING oil plays a key role in making daily meals for all families. Although Myanmar people prefer to taste all oily cooked meals, they have to amend their mindsets to discard their eagerness to eat oily meals for their healthiness in time.

According to the research results, everybody needs just 2.5 ticals of edible oil per day. But, most of the Myanmar people cannot avoid such a rate. Indeed, these oily meals can bring disadvantages and terrible diseases to them, harming the lung, heart, blood veins and other inner body organs.

In calculating the oil consumption of the whole nation, the volume of edible oil produced at home is not sufficient for all people. It is because the individual oil consumption rate is still high.

As a result, the people need to reduce individual oil consumption while relevant ministries and region and state chief ministers should seek the best way and mean for rising production of edible oil at home. Local farmers need to fully utilize the cultivable lands under edible oil crops through a mix-cropping system. If so, it is sure to increase the per-acre yield of edible oil crops.

Moreover, the sown acreage of edible oil crops must be irrigated through modern techniques of pumping up the water in the summer in order to increase the per-acre yield of crops.

To be able to save the spending of foreign exchange used in the import of edible oil abroad, cultivable lands must be utilized for the cultivation of edible oil crops such as groundnut, sesame, canola and sunflower. Among them, sunflower can yield the largest volume of edible oil crops per acre. Hence, the production of sunflower oil can meet the local demand for appropriate oil consumption.

Awareness-raising measures must be taken for lessening the edible oil borne diseases that a large number of people suffer from. An adequate ratio of oil consumption will contribute much to enhancing the health and fitness of the entire people in line with the third social objective of the State. All the people need to launch their efforts because the second-best time is now.

All people should pass the message on to others, mentioning the danger of the high oil consumption rate. If they reduce edible oil consumption, they can save spending on buying the oil and protecting themselves against forthcoming diseases. So, they all need to know that good result is reachable. GNLM
