Union Minister for Health and Sports attends high level and related meetings on UHC

Union Minister for Health and Sports attended a high level and related meetings on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) held in New York, United States from 22 to 25 September and arrived back to Yangon on the evening of 30 September.

 

Under the invitation of Stop TB Partnership Executive Director, the Union Minister attended a TB Innovation Summit 2019 on 22 September and participated in a round table talk as a speaker together with Brazil minister of health.


Next, the Union Minister met with New York based Myanmar doctors association members and discussed for the Myanmar doctors who had become US citizens to visit and provide health care in Myanmar and to share experience and knowledge. Later the Union Minister met with chief executive officers of Washington D.C. based FHI 360 group.


On 23 September, the Union Minister attended the high level meeting on UHC held at United Nations headquarter in New York. Speeches were delivered by 74th UN General Assembly chair, UN secretary general, WHO director general and World Bank president at the opening ceremony. Meeting attending presidents, prime ministers and health ministers then delivered speeches on behalf of their respective countries and Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe delivered a speech on behalf of the country.


Later in the day, the Union Minister attended a meeting held by Business Council for International Understanding on increasing the momentum of health care on non-contagious disease.


On the morning and afternoon of 24 September, the Union Minister met with General Electronic and One Sight Foundation and later attended a discussion on Eliminating Poor Vision in a Generation.


Afterwards, the Union Minister met with KIKR Humanitarian Group Chairman and Program Director and accepted the pledge by KIRK Humanitarian group to continue providing medicines for Myanmar and to continue cooperating in research on expecting mothers.


On 25 September, the Union Minister attended the Goalkeepers 2019 Program organized by Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation discussed matters relating to Myanmar designated as Goalkeepers.
