US official cites flexibility on N.Korea talks

A senior US official says the US and North Korea understand a flexible approach is needed to push forward talks on the North's denuclearization.

US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun gave a lecture at a think tank in Washington on Wednesday.

He indicated the US is ready to agree on talks on ways to realize North Korea's denuclearization.

Biegun said there have been many communications between the governments -- publicly and secretly. That is in spite of the failed summit between the countries in February.

He said Pyongyang should take meaningful and verifiable actions.

Biegun also referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to North Korea. The US official said his country and China share the stance of seeking the North's denuclearization.

He said he hopes President Xi will send constructive and appropriate messages to the country.
