New Zealand's prime minister says 100 people were on or near White Island at the time of a volcanic eruption there.
Several people were injured and some are unaccounted for. The volcano erupted at 2:30 p.m. local time on the island. It is located about 50 kilometers off the east coast of the country's North Island.
