World Bank president to step down

The president of the World Bank says he'll be stepping down on February 1st. The announcement by Jim Yong Kim comes nearly 3 years before his current and 2nd term was set to expire in 2022.

Kim says he plans to join a company engaged in infrastructure investment in developing countries.

The World Bank has announced that Chief Executive Kristalina Georgieva will act as interim president after Kim's departure.

The United States is the largest shareholder in the global lender. It's thought that Washington will likely push for someone who supports American interests.President Trump has criticized the Bank in the past, saying it has provided too many loans to China.
