Worldwide coronavirus cases near 18 million

The number of coronavirus cases recorded around the world is approaching 18 million.


Johns Hopkins University in the United States says that as of 21:00 UTC on Sunday, 17,952,324 people across the globe had been confirmed to have contracted the virus.
It puts the number of deaths at 686,877.


The US has more than 4.6 million cases -- the highest count in the world. The country is followed by Brazil and India.


The death toll is also highest in the US, at more than 154,000. Brazil is in the second slot, and Mexico ranks third.
