Xi: China will send more medical experts to Italy

Chinese President Xi Jinping says the country will send more medical experts to Italy, which is now struggling to deal with the new coronavirus outbreak.

Xi had a phone conversation with Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday.

China's Foreign Ministry said Xi told Conte that China strongly supports Italy's resolute measures to prevent and control the outbreak.

It said Xi offered to send more experts and do its best in providing medical supplies and other assistance.

Last week, China sent a team of nine medical experts and 31 tons of medical supplies to Italy.

Italy is a key European partner for China in Xi's Belt and Road initiative.
