THE opening ceremony of the Yangon Region Sports Festival was held yesterday afternoon at the National Indoor Stadium 1 in Thingangyun Township.

 

Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein delivered the opening speech, followed by warm greetings to the partic­ipating teams by the chief minis­ter and other regional ministers.

 

The event featured demon­strations of traditional Myan­mar martial arts, Taekwondo, fitness dancing, and acrobatics. Prizes were awarded to out­standing athletes. The sports festival, a precursor to the 2024 National Sports Festival, will run from 14 to 24 September, featuring 24 sports, including football, Sepak Takraw, basket­ball, badminton, traditional cane ball, golf, cricket, table tennis, volleyball, swimming, athlet­ics, weightlifting, billiards and snooker, boxing, judo, karate, high jump, Taekwondo, Myan­ma MMA, vovinam, wrestling, wushu, and parasports.

 

Athletes from 14 districts are participating, with a total of 2,417 players and 599 officials, making 3,016 participants. — Arkar Lin/KZL
