OVER 50 per cent of YBS buses are currently operating in Yangon region starting from the first week of November, said U Hla Aung, joint secretary of Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).
“Commencing from the first week of November, our YBS buses are operating 43 per cent in minimum and 56 per cent in maximum. We are worried about crowded buses. The bus lines are instructed to make the drivers and the passengers wear masks, and use hand gel. Although we have difficulty in social distancing, we are trying to arrange for mask-wearing and use of hand gel,” he added.
In such a pandemic period like this, YBS operates more than 2,700 buses from 106 bus lines, providing service for over 400,000 passengers in Yangon Region. Before the outbreak of COVYBS resumes over half of its fleet in Yangon ID-19, more than 4,500 YBS buses were running in Yangon region with 135 routes carrying approximately 1.8 million commuters, according to YRTA.
Besides, the number of passengers using the YBS buses is a minimum of 12 per cent and a maximum of 26 per cent, compared to the previous percentage, he added.
The number of commuters onboard the buses had dropped after authorities had declared the stay-at-home announcement in 44 townships in Yangon except for Cocogyun township when the COVID-19 second wave started.
