THE Neurology Department of Yangon General Hospital has extended its operating hours and expanded its services for both outpatients and inpatients, according to hospital sources.

Currently, the outpatient department systematically categorizes and treats patients from Monday to Friday, providing healthcare services to an average of about 100 patients per day.

Professor Dr Moe Moe Zaw, Head of the Neurology Department at Yangon General Hospital, stated that critical medical examinations are being expanded to improve efficiency in the diagnostic process.

These expanded examinations include electroencephalograms (EEGs) to detect abnormal brain activity and specialized equipment-based tests for patients suffering from nerve damage and limb immobility.

Since 2025, the department has been successfully carrying out a procedure to treat stroke patients by administering thrombolytic drugs (blood clot-dissolving medications). If a stroke patient arrives at the hospital within three hours of the onset of symptoms, doctors from the emergency and radiology departments collaborate to diagnose and treat the patient promptly.

During 2025, the Neurology Department at Yangon General Hospital provided medical treatment to approximately 1,800 inpatients and 2,000 outpatients. With the expansion of treatment services and diagnostic examinations, patients suffering from neurological disorders are now able to receive faster and more effective medical care. — TWA/TH
