Youths are key to education reforms

CHANGE or reform can be considered from two perspectives. The first involves carrying out reforms to change a situation of the past which ought to be reformed, and the second involves carrying out reforms with innovations aimed at the future.

Myanmar, which is a least developed country, needs both. With wisdom, we can successfully implement these reforms.

Wisdom does not mean titles and degrees. An education system must help develop abilities which can lead to wisdom and foresight.

Young people, who have an advantage compared to older people in terms of age and time, must use both to pursue education, which can help develop wisdom. But, not all youths have the means to make use of this advantage.

The question of the role of youths arises when we think about education reforms. We want our country to have an education system that benefits our citizens equally, irrespective of whether they are rich or poor, from urban or rural areas.

The government is obliged to reform the country’s education system, which can guarantee inclusiveness.

The effort towards achieving such an education would depend on whether Myanmar is rich or poor.

Myanmar is not a poor country, but neither is it developed. The country is striving towards development. Thus, Myanmar cannot allocate as many resources as she would like for the education system. How can this challenge be overcome? The answer is: through cooperation.

While the government is working to build a good education system for the country, the youths, on their part, must share the responsibility for their education. The right participation from youths can speed up educational reforms. Therefore, we would like to urge the youth to state their requirements which would help them make the best use of time, as part of educational reforms, so that the government can reach the right decision.

The best solution for the best education will come to us through discussions at the table. A good education system can give every person the confidence to face the world in every situation. That is the essence of education.

The government elected by the people has been carrying out reforms since taking office over three years ago. We are witnessing the fruitful results of education reforms. In terms of time, two years are not much, but the achievements in education reforms during the period show that we can design a good education system for the country, if we lay down the right policy.

We can put our education on the right path with the collective strength of students, parents, and educators.
