Zelenskiy's party expected to win Ukraine election

22 July

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's party is on course to be the largest force in the country's parliament.

Voters cast their ballots on Sunday in the first parliamentary election since Zelenskiy, a former comedian, was elected president in May.

Zelenskiy's Servant of the People party was formed in 2017 but did not have a parliamentary seat.

He announced a snap election right after he took office.

The election commission says that, with 3.03 percent of the votes counted, Zelenskiy's party is leading with 40.36 percent.

Former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko's Fatherland party received 10.24 percent while the Russian-friendly Opposition Platform party got 10.06 percent.
