A total of 157 illegal Myanmar migrant workers including 101 men and 56 women who have been detained previously for crossing the border illegally were handed over by the Thai authorities to their Myanmar counterpart at the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge-2 on 26 September.

The returnees were warmly welcomed by Myanmar departmental officials, and provided free medical check-up and other necessary assistances to them.

The returnees who are from Bago Region, Tanintharyi Region and Mon State will be allowed to go back home after being placed under ten-day observation at a facility quarantine centre in the town of Mawlamyine, Mon State.

In addition, returnees from other regions and states will be allowed to go back home after being placed under ten-day observation at the quarantine centre in the Town of Myawaddy, Kayin State.
