3 killed, 44 injured from 6.5-magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan

At least three people were killed and around 44 others injured in a strong earthquake hitting Afghanistan on Tuesday night, spokesman for the public health ministry of the Afghan caretaker government Sharafat Zaman Amar said Wednesday.

The 6.5-magnitude quake hit the Afghan capital Kabul and several provinces in the country at 09:17 p.m. local time on Tuesday night, the country's national disaster management authority said on its Twitter account.

It said the epicenter of the tremor was in the northern Badakhshan province.

The provincial head of the national disaster management authority in Badakhshan, Mohammad Akbar Akrami told Xinhua that seven houses were destroyed.
