UNION Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who is also the Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Com­mittee, attended the opening ceremony of the XXXIII South- East Asian Games hosted by Thailand, which was held at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on 9 December.

 

Together with the Union minister at the opening cere­mony were Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, Yangon Region Minister for Social Af­fairs U Htay Aung, leaders and officials of the Myanmar sports delegation, team managers, coaches, and athletes.

 

NOC Thailand (SEAGF) President and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered the opening speech, followed by a greeting message from King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand.

 

Afterwards, the XXXIII South-East Asian Games were officially declared open, with Thai athletes, who had previ­ously won national honorary gold medals, carrying and lighting the torch to inaugurate the Games.

 

The XXXIII South-East Asian Games are currently being held in Bangkok, Chonburi and Chiang Mai in Thailand from 9 to 20 December, featuring 54 sport­ing events. It has been learned that Myanmar will compete in 38 of these events. — MNA/KZL
