THAILAND hosted the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, with the group-stage matches kicking off on 24 February. Myanmar opened their campaign with a narrow defeat against the Philippines, going down one goal to nil.
Myanmar pressed for an early advantage and created several attacking moves, but could not find the breakthrough. The Philippines capitalised in 14 minutes of the first half, scoring the only goal of the match. Myanmar increased their tempo after the interval and searched for an equaliser, yet the Philippines defence held firm to secure the win.
In other group fixtures, Australia beat defending champions Vietnam two goals to nil, while host nation Thailand defeated Indonesia three goals to nil.
The tournament features two groups. Group A includes Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, while Group B comprises Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Australia.
Group matches will continue on 25 February. The Philippines will face Vietnam at 1 pm Myanmar Standard Time, Myanmar will take on Australia at 3:30 pm, and Indonesia will meet Malaysia at 6 pm. — Chit Ko Ko/KZL
