UNION Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe delivered a speech at the meeting with officers and staff who will serve duties at the Myanmar Embassy, permanent representative offices, and consulates-general in foreign countries yesterday.

At the event, the Union Minister stated that only those who meet the specified criteria are selected for overseas assignments. As they represent the country, he emphasized the importance of strictly observing proper codes of conduct. He noted that due respect must also be given to the customs and cultures of the host countries where they will serve, and he encouraged them to continuously strive for self-improvement and to carry out their duties with minimal errors.

He also stressed that civil servants must be loyal to themselves and to the State, and carefully consider their actions. He pointed out the importance of having an accurate understanding of their country’s political, economic, and geographical conditions, and the need to work for the benefit of the country and to enhance international relations. Personal development and unity among colleagues contribute to strengthening national characteristics.

The Union minister continued that in line with the guidance of the Head of State, all should make efforts to build friendly relations between Myanmar and neighbouring countries, ASEAN member states, and regional countries, intending to restore the country’s original standing. He also encouraged them to effectively carry out the five core functions of diplomats and to do their utmost to serve the interests of Myanmar citizens residing abroad.

The Union minister concluded the meeting, saying to improve the diplomatic characteristics and highlighting that the most essential quality of a diplomat is loyalty, and encouraged them to continuously study and improve their communication, language, and negotiation skills.
