THE Mongton Township Rural Development Department under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development provided public solar streetlights to 41 villages across nine village-tracts in Mongton Township, Mongton District, Shan State (East), yesterday.

The initiative aims to enhance the socioeconomic status of rural residents and narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas. During the event, a team led by Daw Kyawt Kyawt Khaing, Head of the Mongton District Rural Development Department, systematically handed over 225 sets of solar panels, lamps, and related accessories to members of the village electrification committees, village development committees, and residents to ensure rapid installation.

In addition to implementing rural productive roads, water supply projects, and expanding systematic agriculture and livestock breeding sectors through Mya Sein Yaung project loans, the Mongton District Rural Development Department’s provision of these solar street lights will benefit 2,256 households and 10,423 residents. This assistance will contribute significantly to the development of local education, healthcare, social, and economic sectors. — Karyan Cho (Rural)
