ON 24 May, a durian charity feast held at Taungpula Hill in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Region, attracted tens of thousands of pilgrims, making it a record-breaking day for visitor turnout in five years, according to the Sayadaw.

The Sayadaw shared on his social media page that approximately 4,500 durians were donated and served during the charity feast on that day.

The influx of visitors was so large that the parking lots across the area were full, with vehicles parking along the approach roads. To facilitate the distribution, tokens were handed out in advance, and each pilgrim received a pre-packaged box of durian.

The charity event also featured musical performances by artists as well as the distribution of fried potatoes. Taungpula Hill is located near Wetwun Village and Peik Chin Myaung Cave in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Region. It is a prominent landmark that attracts tourists and pilgrims from all over Myanmar. Visitor numbers usually surge on weekends, full moon days, and new moon days compared to weekdays.

Pilgrims can enjoy complimentary rice and curry meals at any time from morning until night. Additionally, several recreation spots have been developed for visitors to appreciate the natural scenery and the beautiful sea of clouds. — MT/ZN
