TO spark a tourism resurgence, the Union of Myan­mar Travel Association (UMTA) has officially debuted the Yangon Heritage Walking Tour Experience.

 

The initiative is a core project of the Yangon Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Working Group 2026, a body dedicated to historic preservation and eco-tourism led by Daw Chaw Chaw Kyae Mone, chair of UMTA HRD.

 

Trainees from the tourism digital marketing course, which is being run under the management of the UMTA HRD Committee, joined the walking tour to historical sites in Yangon and the surround­ing area.

 

Led by a guide U Sithu Tun Soe Oo, 22 trainees started their walking tour from Maha Bandoola Park at 1 pm on 6 June and visited the Western District Court, the Myanma Economic Bank Branch 2, the Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank, the In­land Water Transport, the Pension Department, new Union Supreme Court, the Settlement and Land Records Department, the Myanma Economic Bank Branch 3, former Myawady Bank, former US Embassy, the Independence Monument at the Maha Bandoola Park, former Ministry of Hotels and Tour­ism office, Sule Pagoda, the City Hall, Ayeyawady Bank head office, the High Court of Yangon Region,

 

immanuel Baptist Church, the Central Telegraph Office, the Internal Revenue De­partment, the Lokanat Building, the Rural De­velopment Bank, the Sarpay Beikman, the Gandhi Hall, Armeni­an Apostolic Church of Saint John the Baptist, the Central Post Office, the British Embassy, the Strand Hotel, the Myanmar Airways and the Myanma Port Au­thority.

 

The walking tour also covered an expedi­tion to the upper floor of the Secretariat. UMTA said it will continue organizing the walk­ing tour for the devel­opment of the tourism industry. — MT/ZS
