THE second day of the in­formal meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the negotiating team of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement-Signatory Eth­nic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAOs) continued yesterday morning at the M Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, discussions continued on the remaining mat­ters from the first day. Subsequently, committee member Lt-Gen Aye Win (Retired) explained the submission of 43 points to the Hluttaw for nec­essary amendments and additions to the 2008 Con­stitution, which had been agreed upon through con­sultations with the political parties cluster, including 21 points agreed upon with the Ethnic Armed Organi­zations (EAOs).

 

Afterwards, both sides reviewed and recorded the outcomes of the two-day ne­gotiations and discussions. They exchanged views and coordinated on matters relating to the objectives and approaches for imple­menting the peace pro­cess and working togeth­er step by step to ensure its success; cooperation in holding effective peace talks and jointly imple­menting the agreements stipulated in the NCA; encouraging EAOs that have departed from the NCA path to understand and accept the State Government’s peace proposal and rejoin the NCA process; building sustainable and lasting peace during the term of the newly elected government; adopting flexible approaches in implementing the peace process; matters relat­ed to peace policies, processes, and mech­anisms; ensuring that education, healthcare, development projects, and humanitarian assis­tance effectively reach and benefit the public; issuing a ceasefire dec­laration without pre­conditions; implement­ing the Tatmadaw’s six-point peace policy and, for groups wish­ing to abandon armed struggle, achieving last­ing peace through the four-point policy; com­bating narcotics, online scams, and online gam­bling; and conducting a Peace Process Review and providing humani­tarian assistance.

 

NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing also explained and discussed the upcoming peace in­itiatives and regional development activities that could be undertak­en based on the out­comes of the two-day discussions.

 

Afterwards, the points agreed upon based on the two days of negotiations and dis­cussions were recorded and signed. The meeting concluded successfully after closing remarks were delivered by Sao Sai Ngin, Secretary 1 of the RCSS and Head of the NCA-Signatory EAOs negotiation team, and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Chairman of the NSP­NC, followed by an ex­change of gifts, accord­ing to reports.

 

Also present at the meeting were NSPNC committee members, Saw Kyaw Nyunt, sec­retary 1 of KNU/KNLA Peace Council, Nai Aung Ma Ngae, executive committee member of NMSP, LDU General Secretary Kyar Yar Kok, DKBA Adjutant-General Saw Sein Win, ALP Gen­eral Secretary Saw Mra Thandar, and U Myo Win and Nan Yin Yin Soe, negotiators of NCA-S EAOs. — MNA/TH
