PYITHU Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi met members of the International Relations Committee at the Hluttaw Affairs Hall (I-5) yesterday, together with Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn and officials from the Pyithu Hluttaw Office.

During the meeting, the Speaker said Hluttaw activities should be made more widely known to the public in line with the motto “Voice of the people – voice of the Hluttaw, will of the people – will of the Hluttaw, hopes of the people – implemented by the Hluttaw,” and emphasized the use of social media to enhance public awareness.

He noted that 22 committees, including four standing committees, have been formed to support parliamentary functions and said the International Relations Committee plays an important role, especially during the country’s transitional period.

He highlighted the need to strengthen engagement with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), promote parliamentary friendship groups, and coordinate internationally aligned legislation on issues such as environmental protection and global initiatives, including integration of Track 1.5 and Track 2 processes.

Committee Chair Dr Pwint San briefed the meeting on the committee’s activities and future plans, followed by discussions from members. The Deputy Speaker also shared remarks on the committee’s responsibilities.

The Speaker later inspected the committee office and meeting rooms. — MNA/KZL
