THE Department of Ru­ral Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, Nay Pyi Taw Union Ter­ritory, inspected the im­plementation of solar-pow­ered irrigation work in Aukchaing Village, Lewe Township, yesterday.

 

Lewe Township De­partment of Rural Devel­opment Head U San Yu Hlaing and engineering staff examined the instal­lation of a 2HP solar DC surface pump system sup­ported by a 2.44 kW solar power system for stream water pumping, as well as fencing works being im­plemented in Auktchoing Village.

 

He also met local el­ders and farmers and dis­cussed efforts to ensure the long-term sustainabil­ity of rural development activities, while also co­ordinating necessary ar­rangements based on local requirements.

 

A total project alloca­tion of K9.61 million has been used for the imple­mentation of solar irri­gation and related work for the 2026-2027 financial year. The project was launched in the first week of June with technical as­sistance and close super­vision from departmental engineers in cooperation with local villagers, and upon completion by the end of June, the project is expected to benefit a large area of farmland in the vil­lage and significantly re­duce fuel costs for farmers. — Maung Khaing (Rural)
