DEPUTY Minister for Electricity and Energy U Kyaw Naing Win stated at the Pyithu Hluttaw session held on 25 June that Myanmar’s fuel requirements rely on foreign imports and that the country currently depends on Singapore as its sole trading hub for fuel imports.

He added that, to ensure the nation’s energy security, the government is implementing policies to diversify energy imports by exploring new sources and routes, as well as to promote energy trade with countries around the world.

To prevent fuel shortages and maintain domestic price stability, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy is also negotiating long-term supply agreements with neighbouring and partner countries.

Furthermore, the ministry is using and monitoring digital systems to improve the management of the fuel supply chain and reduce unnecessary costs. These measures include installing Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) systems in storage tanks, using GPS tracking systems in fuel tankers, implementing QR code systems at retail stations, and conducting real-time monitoring.

The ministry is also closely monitoring and supervising the entire fuel supply chain to ensure that the public can purchase fuel at reasonable prices while maintaining an adequate supply without shortages. — TWA/TH
