Laos welcomed more than 2.1 million international visitors in the first five months of 2026, achieving 47 percent of the annual target of 4.46 million arrivals and representing an 8 percent increase year-on-year.

According to Lao News Agency on Tuesday, the report was presented during the ongoing first extraordinary session of the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature, stating that tourism revenue surpassed 960 million U.S. dollars during the period.

Domestic tourism also showed strong performance, with 1.3 million domestic trips recorded, reaching 30 percent of the annual target of 4.3 million trips set by the National Assembly.

The report highlighted progress in tourism infrastructure development and destination management.

The government has also stepped up efforts to improve tourism service standards and protect visitors.

Laos aims to attract more than 43 million visitors between 2026 and 2030, including 21 million domestic and 22 million international tourists.

In 2025, Laos welcomed over 4.5 million foreign visitors, an 11 percent increase from the previous year and surpassing the government's target. Thailand, China, and Vietnam were the top sources of international tourists.
