THE Department of Rural Development, under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development conducted a field inspec­tion yesterday to review the completion of a hand-dug drinking water well, which was constructed under the Village Development Pro­ject (VDP) in Mawhpawng (Zone 7), Myitkyina Town­ship.

 

Myitkyina Township Department of Rural De­velopment Head U Nay Thu Yein Sein Hla and staff inspected the completed hand-dug well construc­tion work. They also met village elders and villagers and discussed the need to collectively maintain and use the water facility sus­tainably, while coordinat­ing necessary measures to meet the village’s require­ments.

 

Mawhpawng (Zone 7) Village is implementing vil­lage development activities using K15 million allocated under the Village Develop­ment Project (VDP). With technical assistance and close supervision from of­ficials of the Township De­partment of Rural Develop­ment, the construction of a hand-dug potable water well measuring four feet in diameter and 40 feet in depth was carried out by local villagers themselves during the 2026-2027 finan­cial year and has now been completed 100 per cent to ensure year-round access to safe drinking water. — Maung Khaing (Rural)
