Pwintbyu Township has nearly completed its maize cultivation plan for the 2026 rainy season. Of the targeted 2,796 acres, a total of 2,780 acres have already been planted since cultivation began in June, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.

During the current rainy season, the Township Department of Agriculture has been conducting farmer education programmes and training sessions aimed at improving crop quality and yields. The department is also organizing field demonstrations and providing guidance on good agricultural practices, including proper pesticide application and the systematic use of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs.

Township Staff Officer Daw Moe Moe Wai said that expanding maize cultivation would help meet local consumption needs while generating additional income through the sale of surplus production, thereby contributing to improved socio-economic conditions for local farmers.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
